Moving in Paris

What makes a Paris move different.

  • A parking permit for the truck

The truck cannot double-park while loading. The space is requested from the City of Paris as a temporary occupation permit (AOT), online with a Mon Paris account, at least 15 days before the date, one per Paris address. It costs €17 to €50 per half-day depending on the vehicle and the spot. Rules on the City of Paris moving FAQ; how it works elsewhere in our parking permit guide.

  • Old buildings, narrow stairs

Haussmann buildings of five or six floors, narrow staircases, lifts where a wardrobe rarely fits. Above the third floor without a suitable lift, the mover often uses a furniture lift through the window, which needs its own permit (€10 to €15).

  • Arrondissements are not equal

The 1st, 4th and 6th combine narrow streets, pedestrian zones and walk-ups. The centre (1st to 4th) is a limited traffic zone: a truck can serve an address, not cross it. The 13th, 15th, north of the 18th, 19th and 20th are usually easier.

  • When to book

Four to six weeks ahead for the end of the month and from June to September, two to three weeks the rest of the year. File the parking permit as soon as the mover is booked.

  • Leaving Paris

About 465 km to Lyon, 580 km to Bordeaux, 770 km to Marseille, usually over two days. See the long-distance prices.

  • Describe it once

Floor, lift, courtyard, distance from the truck to your door: say it in the form, and every mover in the list prices it. No visit, no sales call.
